This is my first read of an AARP tagged book, so I do not know if my issues are a function of the tag or not. The book comes in at 59 pages per the print length in product details. I wouldn’t be able to tell you for sure though because the kindle statistics on my book were constantly changing – incorrect minutes left to chapter, to book, percentage of book read… floated all over the place. [To those that say this should not be part of the review of the book, I review products from Amazon, and the product did not function as expected on my Amazon device (Overdrive library delivers kindle books via Amazon).]As for the material, I was not satisfied. It stated that it is meant as a reference and chapters can be read in order of your needs. The end result of this was constant repetition of material among the chapters. I found it similar to reading –some- of the AARP newspaper articles, very short and bullet list driven but not very in depth. Usually the short print articles will refer you to get more information – go someplace. This book does provide a handful of links for credit agencies, scam alert, and spam tactics sites. I am not an expert but also not a novice. In my opinion this book would not be very beneficial for a novice due to the brevity.
I gave it 2 stars because it did make me think about a couple of things, one I realized that I have to see about storing a backup outside my house too. The other was the email address advice in the book. As I said I’m not a novice, and utilize multiple email accounts for various things. I do not think enough people realize it is more than just for convenience to use multiple addresses, but for safety. I don’t quite hold with the book’s recommendation of not using your name when creating an official email address for serious communications, strange non-related or cutie names don’t come off as professional or memorable for these type of messages in my opinion.
I borrowed it from my elibrary and am very happy I did not pay for it. When searching to post this review I saw there is a similar “For Dummies” book at 288 pages. Warning: I have not read it, but looking at the table of contents compared to what I read here, I’d go with borrowing/buying “Identity Theft for Dummies” by Michael J. Arata over this item. I feel sad to see an AARP tag on this book.

AARP Protecting Yourself Online For Dummies eBook Nancy C Muir Ryan C Williams Reviews
Thank you for recommending this book. I found it to be informative and review some of the sections periodically.
This is a clear and easy to read primer on this very important primer on computer security for seniors.Worthwhile read and valid call to action.
The price was right--I belive it was free. The author collected all of the computer security wisdom of that era. Of course, everyone has moved on, especially the bad guys. New techniques.in phishing and highly targeted social engineering schemes have rendered this book obsolete. The basic techniques do have some value. It is an easy read.
Like most things AARP does and like Ryan C. Williams other book (Passwords & Internet Journal) this book is excellent. Covers all the bases and gives good ideas, many beyond what are usually recommended.
I had no trouble with the download, unlike the two customers who gave the book 1 star. Really, their reviews should be removed as they are mad at for the troubles they are having and have not even read the book.
THE TRUE RATING SCORE FOR THIS BOOK SHOULD BE 4.5 (as of 9/9/2014)
(my 5 plus the other real reviewer's 4 equals 9 divided by 2 equals 4.5).

Had the same problem. Went to My Account; Orders; Digital Orders; and Manage Your Content and Devices next to the picture of the book. It downloaded the book to my IPad.
Have not read the book so cannot comment on the content.
